Stages of learning to read
- Recognising letters, usually beginning with the initial letter of thier name
- Associating sounds and letters
- Realising that letters make words
- Realising that sounds combine to make words
- Learning that a word says the same thing every time you see it, even if it is in a different book of in a different size print or font
- Learning that words go together to form sentences
- Learning the conventions of punctuation and layout
